MES SOFTWARE · COMPARISON
Atherya vs traditional MES software
Integrate with your current MES or replace it over time. Your choice. Your call.
What MES software actually does
MES software (manufacturing execution system) records what happens on the shop floor: who made what, when and on which machine. It tracks orders, operators, lots and quality results. It is serious, useful and often indispensable.
But a MES is a record. It holds the plan and notes what happened. The cycle time it plans with comes from the catalogue. The capacity comes from the nameplate. To a traditional MES, a press slowing down for weeks still runs at the speed it had on installation day.
The system does not lie. It simply does not know.
Each traditional system knows one piece. People do the coordination in between.
“AI-powered MES” usually means a new label
In the last two years, many MES vendors added an AI layer. Look closely at what it does:
- A chat window on old tables. You can ask a question instead of opening a report. The answer comes from the same data, so if the MES never knew a machine was degrading, neither does the assistant.
- Generic anomaly models. They find everything unusual, and everything in a factory is unusual. More alarms, not more answers.
- More modules to buy. Predictive maintenance is one module, advanced planning another, energy another. Each has its own project and only knows its own piece.
Artificial intelligence is not a label. Either the system knows your factory or it does not.
Traditional MES software vs Atherya
| Traditional MES software | Atherya | |
|---|---|---|
| Capacity | Nameplate cycle times | Observed rate × real availability × machine health today |
| Machines | Records their output | Learns each machine's normal, per product, season and restart |
| Maintenance | Separate module or separate system | Predictive maintenance inside the same brain, linked to the plan |
| Planning | Plan in, report out | Plans on effective capacity and replans when reality changes |
| Missing data | Often filled with defaults | Left empty, with a written reason |
| Writing to systems | Manual entry | Writes only ratified decisions, with your signed permission, after a dry run, then reads back to verify |
A plan built on nameplate capacity is built around a factory that does not exist.
The real cost is between systems, not inside the MES
A machine slows down. Someone must notice, decide whether maintenance is needed, recalculate capacity, move orders, warn the customer and reorganise teams. All by hand, across systems that do not speak, with spreadsheets in between.
No MES software removes that coordination. Atherya does: one brain reads the change and knows what it touches. Capacity, plan, deliveries and maintenance move together.
When a machine changes, every consequence is recalculated in the same place.
Keep your MES or replace it. Your call.
Atherya never forces the switch. It starts by reading the MES, ERP and machine data you already have, without touching them. Then it proposes. Then it acts, only with your sign-off and within explicit limits.
Atherya integrates with your existing ERP and MES if you want. Over time, it can also replace them. Your choice. Your call.
Each step is earned with evidence, and stepping back takes one click.
